ARTIST STATEMENT / BIO
I’ve always thought of myself as a practical person, a person who believes in savings accounts and backup plans, and no one finds it more absurd that someone like me would end up as an artist than I do. The thing is, art burst onto the scene with great fanfare at a low point in my life, and after rummaging around in all the dusty corners of my mind, it returned, triumphant, with pieces of my long-forgotten creativity. It was pretty impossible to ignore how alive it made me feel. I had to see how far it could go. - Heidi
'What would life be if we had no courage to attempt anything?' ― Vincent van Gogh
After deciding to leave my respectable government job in DC and become an artist, I also moved back to my home state of Colorado. Many of my paintings reflect the joy of being once again surrounded by the natural beauty of the mountains and the wide-open prairie. Floating between realism and impressionism, my artwork adds an element of fantasy to the natural world with heightened colors and streamlined shapes."
