Jack Ludlam
There is something to be said for the person that steers away from the mechanical manifestations of the modern day world. This type of person might disregard monetary gain in order to produce a good or service that is truly reliable and often gets neglected or even forgotten in the fast paced, commercial world that we have constructed. Rather than increasing mass production, cheap prices, and convenience we as part of a community can look to these craftsmen for inspiration and guidance.

My interest in this unique and dedicated group of people who work with their hands began in 2012 when I met the barbers at Proper Barbershop. The individuals who work at the barbershop, as well as the owner, are committed to delivering a necessary service to their community in their own unique and traditional way. Discovering their work ethic led me to begin a journey pursuing others who are dedicated to their craft.

The inspiration gained from these "makers", those who work with their hands, led me to engage traditional film photography rather than digital processes. Support from my family enabled me to purchase my first film camera, a Hasselblad 500cm. In 2013, I graduated from Regis University with a BA in Visual Arts [emphasis in photography]. The practice and tangibility of shooting and working in the dark room, producing photographs with my hands, immediately connected with me allowing me to create my own process in celebrating the handmade artisan process.
